Ally May is an award-winning director and writer. Her short films have been selected for dozens of film festivals including the HollyShorts Festival, Catalina Film Festival, San Francisco International Film festival and Santa Barbara Film Festival. Ally’s directing work has won many awards including Best Director in the California Indie Festival, the Toronto Indie Shorts and Female Film Festival.
Ally’s brand is emotionally haunted characters, forced to grow beyond their trauma. Her work empathizes with troubled female protagonists and focuses on how they navigate toward a brighter future. Her portfolio is a combinations of narrative and experimental films.
Being a natural story-teller led Ally to a Bachelor of Arts in American Literature with a focus on Cinema and the UCLA Writing Program. She also attended the Academy of Film Writing, SF Film School, the Directing Actors Workshops, the Sundance Directing Program, the Joan Scheckel Filmmaking Labs and The Visual Accelerator with Anka Malatynska.
In addition to independent films, she works as a screenwriter and commercial director. Ally is currently creator/show runner of a web series titled BERNADETTE THE BRAVE; she has two short films on the festival circuit and a feature film in development titled BACKSCATTER.
